The 8th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports, AMMS 8 and related meeting served as an important platform for ASEAN and relevant stakeholders in the field of sports to exchange views, discuss policies, and strengthen cooperation in realising an active and united ASEAN Community.


The Meeting in Hanoi, Viet Nam was attended by ASEAN Ministers responsible for sports and their representatives, as well as the Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for the Socio-Cultural Community, ASCC. Timor-Leste also participated as an observer.

 

In outlining Brunei Darussalam's vision for the next Work Plan on Sports 2026 - 2030, The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, expressed Brunei Darussalam's support for the seven proposed priority areas and underscored their alignment with the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi Mohamad also emphasised the importance of sports diplomacy in strengthening friendship, solidarity and a shared ASEAN identity. Yang Berhormat further called for equal emphasis on safeguarding and integrity in sports policy, ensuring that participation in sports remain safe, inclusive and respectful, particularly for youth, women and persons with disabilities.

 

Meanwhile, the 5th ASEAN Plus Japan Ministerial Meeting on Sports reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in sports exchange, training, and youth engagement. 

 

At the 2nd ASEAN Plus China Ministerial Meeting on Sports underscored the shared aspiration to enhance capacity building and promote collaborative programmes in sports development, contributing to regional solidarity and people-to-people connectivity through sport.
